 The Central College Oriental Medical Center has two purposes:

♣     Students must practice the necessary clinical training to fulfill their internship requirements.
♣     To provide affordable oriental medical treatment and services to the general public.
These treatments include acupuncture, acupressure, tui-na, moxibustion, and prescribing herbal medicines. 

       

** INTERNSHIP CLINICAL TRAINING

For candidate students for clinical training programs must pass a preliminary examination and will be eligible for enrollment
in the higher phase after taking an evaluation test in each phase.
Passing scores are at least 70%, and the purpose of the evaluation tests is to assess the required knowledge and techniques
before beginning higher clinical training.
Here at Central College, our clinic facilities are as unique as they are effective.
The Oriental Medical Center here at Central College has three treatment rooms and twelve treatment beds. They are used in
conjunction with contemporary medical equipment providing an integration of the practical; as well as, the intellectual unification
of Eastern and Western medical arts, training and treatment for the general public.

** INTERNSHIP SUPERVISION

The purpose of the clinical education offered by Central College Oriental Medical Center is in proving continuously the natural
and outstanding effects of Oriental Medicine through treatment, and in assuring the quality of medical parishioners through
medical services, as well as in improving the qualities of students to apply the theories they learned in class for treatment.
The students are encouraged to take the best advantage of such opportunities by actively participating in the clinical activities,
to obtain fruitful and successful results.
Central college of Oriental Medicines and the clinic will make every effort to assure that the faculty as well as the facilities is of the
highest quality to provide the best educational environment.
The College, the Clinic and the Students, by making efforts in unity, will be able to help society to become healthier and more
active, demonstrating the excellence of traditional Oriental Medicine in Canada and all over the world.
Central College is set up in stages of Internship, from Observation only, to nearly unsupervised treatment of patients.
Between each stage, there is an examination, and a comprehensive case study, which incorporates components
learned in that stage. 
Interns must also have completed certain pre-requisite didactic courses before entering into the higher levels of internship.
For example, before entering into the Diagnosis and Evaluation stage, interns must have completed
OMT411 Traditional Chinese Medicine Diagnostics.
Through this progression, interns gain a thorough knowledge of all the workings of an OM Clinic. 
Interns learn to maintain and keep treatment rooms, how to keep proper records, and most importantly, how to carefully interview,
diagnose, and treat patients.

** This is the procedure that each stage of interns and clinic doctors completed 
    Patients chart and clinic forms.
    Observation Stage (CIT701Oriental Medical Diagnosis):


1.  The OB Students in this phase of training will only observe.
2.  The OB Students will not make any diagnosis, nor will they treat any patients.
3.  The OB student will help clean the Clinic.
4.  The OB students will patients fill out the intake forms.
5.  The OB Students will bring patients to the treatment room.
6.  The OB Students will do only basic recording of weight, height, or blood pressure.
7.  The OB Students observe the preparation of patient record, and treatment methods.
8.  The OB Students may not make contact physically with patient during treatment.
9.  The OB students will help patients arrange for next appointment.
10.The OB Students clean and organize the treatment room after patient treatment
11.The OB Students submit a summary report of one case about the patients they observed, and make presentation about it.

** Supervised Stage  (CIT711Diagnosis and Evaluation)

1.  The SP I Students will take the medical history of patients
2.  The SP I Students will do the complete physical examination of the patients, including the diagnostic procedures of taking
     the pulse and inspection of the tongue.
3.  The Students carries out the duties of OB also when no OB is available.

** Partial Supervised Stage (CIT721 Partial Supervisor)

1.  The PS Students will completely understand how to make diagnosis and prescription.
     However, his/her clinic supervisor will make the final diagnosisand prescription.
2.  The PS students submit a summary report of one case, and make presentation about it.
3.  The Students carries out the duties of OB and SP also when no OB and SP are available.

** Proximal Supervision (CIT 731, CIT741)

1.  The PS students in this phase will take the medical history of patients.
2.  The PS students in this phase will do complete diagnostic examinations independently.
3.  The PS students in this phase propose his/her opinion concerning diagnosis and acupuncture (or herbal treatment) to the
     responsible doctor. However, his /her Clinic Supervisors will make the final diagnosis and prescription.
4.  The PS students in this phase may perform acupuncture (or herbal treatment) under  Supervision of the responsible doctor.
5.  The students submit a summary report of one case, and make presentation about it.
6.  The Students carries out the duties of OB SP and PS also when no OB,SP and PS are available.

** Regardless of intern’s stage, all patients’ Chart and/ or clinic forms need to be approved
    and signed by Clinic Supervisor.


Clinic members responsible for interns are all licensed by the CTCMA of BC to practice at the level of each intern’ Program. 
Clinic staffs in Central College are all holders of Doctor of O.M. Degree from their country of study (usually China or the U.S.)
and have 5 to 20 years of experience, both teaching and practicing.  It is College policy that there should be no more than
2 interns per clinical staff member on any given day during internships.
